Fun (true) story:

In 2013, I was hired as a producer's assistant on the zombie film Maggie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. I flew out from gloomy London to fizzing New Orleans, eager to begin work on a big budget feature.  When I arrived, to my stomach-sinking dismay,  Arnie was about to pull out of the film - "these things happen all the time" I was told.

I prepared my soul for the trip back to the UK, when my producer pulled a hail Mary. He told me to get on the next plane to LA and then handed me a check for one million dollars.

"Give this to Arnold's agent," he said, " and tell that cocksucker to get Arnold out here next week. And don't fucking lose it!"

I sat on that plane holding that check in my clammy right hand for 5 hours as if it was the key to my soul. I didn't eat, drink, or go to the toilet. I think I even rationed my breathing.

Well, the agent was at the gate when I arrived, thank Christ. He opened up the check, beamed a Hollywood grin, pulled out his cell phone and said, "I got it, yep, we're good to go."

I took that as a 'yes' and felt the delicate particulars of my producers full message might be slightly overkill at that point.

When I arrived back in New Orleans that night, we partied until the sun came up.  I was hailed as the savior of a half-decent zombie flick. And, that's how bourbon and ginger beer became my favourite drink. Cheers.
